Haiti Happenings - Advent 2017

Haiti Happenings- Advent 2017

Bonjou!

Many exciting things have been happening over the past few months in the parish to grow the relationship between St. Paul’s and Saint Francis in Courette, Haiti:

The Coffee Klutchers, Altar and Rosary’s St. Gerard Circle, and CEW have all heard presentations on our recent trips to Haiti.

The Saint Paul’s school students have also heard presentations about our trips , and they have written letters to students that go to school near St. Francis.

St.Paul’s school and Religious Education students were treated to a visit by Serve Haiti Clinic’s head doctor, Dr. Leopold Bourgouin.

During Advent, St. Paul’s students will be buying picture books written in Haitian Creole. The books will be delivered to Haitian teachers next summer.

Plans for building a new church for the people of St. Francis in Courette are moving forward. We have set a goal that will allow Fr. Arsene Beneche to say the first mass at St. Francis's new church on Christmas Day, 2019.  We have a cost estimate of between $i50,000 and $160,000 to construct a wonderful church that would definitely meet the needs of our sister parish. The generosity of St. Paul the Apostle has already bloomed forth. We currently have nearly $30.000 in donations. That only leaves $120,000 to $130,000 to go. We can do this! As you plan your gift giving this Christmas, consider giving the gift of helping us provide a safe and beautiful worship space for our brothers and sisters in Haiti.

If you have questions about building the new church or donating, contact Don Blough at 320-7265.Donations may be made out to and sent to St. Paul the Apostle Church.

If you would like to have a presentation given to your group, please contact Tara Greufe at 563-340-5704.

Trips to Haiti in June, 2018 are being planned. If you would like to spend a week-you’ll-never- forget serving others, please contact Tara Greufe or Don Blough.
